EACOP SPARTICIPATES AT 3RD OIL & GAS SKILLS EXPO 2026

EACOP participated in the 3rd Oil & Gas Skills Expo 2026, showing its commitment to national content development, skills transfer, and preparing Ugandans to take an active role in the country’s growing oil and gas industry.

Held over two days at Makerere University under the theme, “From Oil and Gas to the Wider Economy: Transferable Skills Driving Sustainable Growth,” the Expo brought together government officials, industry players, academic institutions, students, and young professionals to discuss the future of skills development in Uganda’s energy sector and beyond.

During the Expo, EACOP engaged directly with students, graduates, technical trainees, and professionals through exhibitions, stakeholder engagements, and career discussions. The interactions provided participants with insights into the Project’s progress, the opportunities being created across the sector, and the skills required to participate in the industry.

Representing EACOP at the event, Andrew Mafabi, Head of Human Resources (Uganda), took part in discussions on workforce readiness, skills development, and local participation in the oil and gas sector. He highlighted the growing capacity of Ugandans to support and manage activities within the industry, emphasizing the importance of continuous skilling and knowledge transfer as the country moves closer to First Oil.

Mafabi also spoke about EACOP’s investment in skills development through initiatives such as the EACOP Academy, which has so far trained 141 students. In addition, the Project has facilitated international exposure opportunities that allow trainees to gain hands-on operational experience relevant to EACOP activities.

He further noted that EACOP continues to invest in local talent through internship programmes, graduate trainee opportunities, specialized technical training, and international placements. These initiatives are helping equip Ugandans with internationally competitive skills while building a workforce capable of supporting both the construction and operational phases of the oil and gas industry.

Speakers at the Expo noted that Uganda’s petroleum industry is increasingly becoming a driver of industrialization, innovation, and broader economic growth. Discussions also focused on the importance of ensuring that skills acquired within the oil and gas sector can be applied across other industries to support long-term national development.

EACOP’s participation in the 3rd Oil & Gas Skills Expo 2026 reflects the Project’s continued focus on local content development, technology transfer, and human capital investment. As the Project progresses towards commissioning and First Oil, EACOP remains committed to developing local talent and contributing to the long-term growth of Uganda’s energy sector.
