Choosing a career path can be one of the biggest decisions a young person makes. Recognising the importance of exposing students to real-world opportunities, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), in partnership with TotalEnergies, participated in the Career Fair at Mengo Senior School on the 16th of July 2026, creating a valuable platform for learning, inspiration, and meaningful conversations.
The event brought together professionals from different EACOP departments who shared their personal career journeys, experiences, and insights during an interactive sit-down session. Rather than simply speaking about their roles, the mentors encouraged students to dream boldly, remain curious, and understand that success is built through continuous learning, resilience, and hard work.
Students also had the opportunity to visit the EACOP exhibition booth, where curiosity took centre stage. They asked a wide range of questions about the pipeline project, career opportunities, environmental stewardship, engineering, communications, human resource, health and safety, and the diverse professions that contribute to delivering a project of EACOP’s scale. The EACOP team engaged openly with the students, providing practical insights while highlighting the importance of collaboration across different disciplines.
The interactions demonstrated that large infrastructure projects are driven not only by engineers but also by professionals in finance, communications, environmental management, health and safety, human resources, procurement, and many other fields. This broader perspective helped students appreciate the many career paths available within the energy sector.
Beyond career guidance, the event reflected EACOP’s commitment to investing in the next generation by creating opportunities for young people to connect with industry professionals, ask questions, and gain a better understanding of the skills needed in today’s workplace.
As the conversations came to a close, many students left with renewed confidence, fresh inspiration, and a clearer picture of the possibilities that lie ahead. Through initiatives such as these, EACOP and TotalEnergies continue to support youth development by empowering learners with knowledge, encouraging ambition, and helping shape the future workforce for Uganda and the region.
