As EACOP continues to advance from construction towards the operations phase, sustained dialogue with key stakeholders remains essential to ensuring shared understanding, transparency, and collaboration.
In this spirit, EACOP held its quarterly NGO engagement meeting this August 2026 at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Dar es Salaam to share key project implementation updates and gather feedback from NGO partners. The meeting brought together 30 participants from 23 NGOs, including 14 female participants, as well as 10 members of the EACOP team, providing an important platform for open dialogue, mutual learning, and continued collaboration with civil society partners.
Discussions focused on project progress, ongoing implementation activities, emerging issues, and practical ways in which EACOP can continue strengthening its approach as it moves closer to operations. The NGOs appreciated the opportunity to receive first-hand information and noted that these engagements are valuable in clarifying concerns and addressing misconceptions about the project, many of which arise from limited access to accurate and timely information. Participants also shared constructive advice on how the project can continue improving, particularly in relation to communication, stakeholder engagement, and information sharing.
The NGOs reaffirmed their commitment to act as ambassadors by sharing the information received with other NGOs, communities, and relevant platforms, thereby supporting wider awareness and informed dialogue on EACOP project implementation.
In closing, the Social Performance Manager, Ms. Rosie Birungi, appreciated the active participation and valuable contributions of the NGOs, recognizing their important role in supporting constructive dialogue and informed engagement around the project. She reaffirmed EACOP’s commitment to maintaining continuous collaboration with NGOs as key partners, particularly as the project advances towards the operations phase, and encouraged continued openness, feedback, and information sharing to support responsible project implementation.
