Through its EITS contractor, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) has officially launched a scholarship programme that will enable the students to pursue Level III technical training at VETA Moshi in the fields of Instrumentation & Automation and ICT & Telecommunication. The total of 17 young Tanzanians will benefit from this scholarship. The initiative reflects EACOP’s continued commitment to developing local talent and equipping young people with practical skills needed to thrive in an increasingly industrial and technology-driven economy.
The launch ceremony brought together representatives from the VETA Northern Zone Office, VETA Moshi, the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA), EITS and EACOP.
Speaking during the ceremony, VETA Northern Zone Director, Ms. Monica Mbelle, underscored the importance of investing in young people through technical and vocational education. She noted that the Level III training programme will provide participants with practical, industry-relevant skills that enhance their employability, support self-employment opportunities and open pathways for long-term career growth. Further, she emphasized that developing skilled professionals is essential for Tanzania’s industrial transformation and thanked EACOP and its contractors for their continued investment in building the country’s human capital through education and skills development.
Representing EWURA, Mr. Stephen Mjema congratulated the scholarship recipients and urged them to remain focused throughout the programme. He encouraged the students to uphold discipline, work hard and make full use of the opportunity presented to them. Mr. Mjema also commended EACOP and its partners for investing in education and creating opportunities that empower young people to build successful and sustainable careers.
Speaking on behalf of EACOP, Ms. Martha Makoi expressed appreciation to VETA Moshi for its continued partnership in delivering high-quality technical training programmes. She congratulated the 17 scholarship recipients, noting that they were selected from a competitive pool of 78 applicants from all over Tanzania, a testament to their talent, commitment and potential. She emphasized that applications were received from across the country, therefore, successful beneficiaries for this intake are all Tanzanian.
She explained that the scholarship programme forms part of EACOP’s broader commitment to skills development and youth empowerment across East Africa. Through its contractors, EACOP has already supported more than 300 students with scholarships in technical and technology-related disciplines, demonstrating that major infrastructure projects create lasting value not only through physical development but also by investing in people.
Ms. Makoi added that by strengthening technical capabilities and preparing young people for meaningful employment, the programme contributes to building a highly skilled workforce that will support Tanzania’s industrial growth and the wider development of the East African region.
Speaking on behalf of EITS, Training Coordinator Mr. Sweetbert Mahemba said the scholarship programme reflects EITS’ strong commitment to Local Content through the development of skilled Tanzanian professionals. He encouraged the students to remain focused, disciplined and committed to excellence throughout their studies.
Mr. Mahemba noted that EITS is proud to partner with VETA Moshi in equipping young people with practical, industry-relevant skills that will prepare them for employment opportunities and enable them to contribute to Tanzania’s growing industrial sector.
The VETA Moshi scholarship programme stands as another example of EACOP’s commitment to creating sustainable social impact beyond pipeline construction. By investing in education, technical skills and the next generation of professionals, the Project continues to empower Tanzanian youth with the knowledge, confidence and expertise needed to transform their lives while contributing to the country’s long-term development.
