EACOP ENGAGES UNIVERSITY GUILD LEADERS AND THE NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL IN CONVERSATIONS ABOUT UGANDA’S ENERGY FUTURE

On 17th July, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) brought together guild leaders from Makerere University, Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Kyambogo University, Victoria University and the National Youth Council for an engaging dialogue at the Golden Tulip Hotel. The event provided a unique opportunity for student leaders to interact directly with key institutions driving Uganda’s oil and gas sector.

The engagement featured representatives from EACOP, the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), and the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU). Through a series of presentations, participants gained a deeper understanding of Uganda’s energy landscape, the progress of the EACOP project, and the opportunities available for young people within the sector.

The presentations were followed by an open dialogue, where guild leaders were encouraged to ask questions, share their perspectives, and engage directly with the team. Discussions covered a range of topics, including local content, employment opportunities, environmental and social responsibility, skills development, and how students can position themselves for careers in Uganda’s growing energy industry. The interactive format created an open and honest exchange, allowing participants to gain practical insights from industry experts.

The engagement also highlighted the value of partnerships between government, industry, and academic institutions in preparing young people for the future of work. By bringing student leaders into these conversations, the event provided them with the knowledge and confidence to share accurate information and meaningful insights with their fellow students.

As the session concluded, participants left with a broader understanding of Uganda’s oil and gas sector and the important role young people can play in its future. Through engagements like this, EACOP continues to create spaces for meaningful conversations, knowledge sharing, and stronger connections with the next generation of leaders.
