In a continued effort to strengthen local participation, supplier forums were held in Sembabule and Kyotera districts to engage with the farmer groups. The forum aimed at equipping local farmers with practical knowledge on the types, quality, and standards of agricultural products required to supply food items to the EACOP camps.
The event created a valuable opportunity for farmers to connect with procurement and catering teams, strengthening collaboration and ensuring that local communities share in the benefits of ongoing oil and gas projects.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Agatha Aine Abaho, Director of Meals on Wheels Uganda – a Tier 2 contractor providing catering services for the project’s Main Camp and Pipe Yards 3 and 4 (MCPY3 and MCPY4) – reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sourcing locally and empowering farmers to meet the required standards.
During the sessions, participants received guidance on product handling, storage, and delivery timelines, as well as training on meeting health and safety requirements for food supplies. Farmers also discussed the importance of record keeping, cooperative organization, and sustainable agricultural practices to maintain reliable supply chains.
The forum concluded with a renewed commitment from both Meals on Wheels and the farmer groups to maintain open communication and continuous improvement in supply capacity.
