INCOMING MANAGING DIRECTOR SHARES PROJECT PROGRESS UPDATES AT THE UGANDA INTERNATIONAL OIL AND GAS CONFERENCE (UIOGS)
The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) was not only a key participant but also one of the sponsors of the Uganda International Oil and Gas Summit (UIOGS). The summit created a platform for stakeholders to explore opportunities in the Oils and Gas sector and address challenges.
On day one, Guillaume Dulout, EACOP’s our incoming Managing Director, emphasized the importance of regional cooperation between Uganda, Tanzania, and other stakeholders involved in the project. He highlighted EACOP’s role as a catalyst for strengthening regional ties, promoting economic integration, and attracting foreign investment. He provided updates on the project’s milestones, its significant contributions to job creation, and its positive economic ripple effects, including support for local businesses and increased tax revenues.
Our National Content Manager, Merian Ahabwe, also speaking on day one, shed light on EACOP’s commitment to localization and inclusivity. She noted that 91% of EACOP’s workforce in Uganda consists of Ugandans, a deliberate effort to prioritize local talent. She elaborated on capacity-building programs, such as international internships and training initiatives, aimed at preparing Ugandans for future roles in the oil and gas sector.
On day two, Our Deputy Managing Director John Bosco Habumugisha gave a detailed presentation on the technological innovations behind EACOP and the project’s adherence to environmental stewardship through the Mitigation Hierarchy. He highlighted the above-standard compensation policies that ensure fairness and community empowerment, as well as the pipeline’s role in attracting investors to Uganda and Tanzania.
EACOP’s sponsorship and active participation in UIOGS reaffirm its leadership in driving sustainable development, empowering local communities, and fostering regional and international collaboration within the oil and gas sector.
