EACOP officially signed a contract with the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) on the 24th of September 2025 to launch the Access to Water Project in Dodoma and Manyara, a major step toward addressing water scarcity in communities along the pipeline corridor. The ceremony brought together government officials, stakeholders, and community leaders.
EACOP’s assessments and consultations had shown that lack of reliable water is one of the most pressing challenges in the region, affecting households, livestock, and particularly women, children, and Vulnerable Ethnic groups (VEGs).
Through the partnership, EACOP and RUWASA are rolling out a pilot phase in both Dodoma and Manyara regions. The project covers Chemba and Kondoa districts in Dodoma, and Hanang, Kiteto, and Simanjiro districts in Manyara. In total, nine (9) villages are included, with the initiative expected to benefit more than 27,000 residents in the communities directly over a 12 month period.
The signing ceremony was attended by EACOP Tanzania General Manager, Mr. Geofrey Mponda, EACOP Tanzania SEI/CSR Manager, Mrs. Clare Haule, EACOP Tanzania Government Relations Manager, Ms. Evelyne Amasi, EACOP Tanzania Lega Manager, Mr. Stanley Mabiti and the guest of honour, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water, Hon. Mwajuma Waziri, who was represented by Hon. Charles Mafie, Assistant Director of Operations and Maintenance. In his remarks, Hon. Mafie congratulated both EACOP and RUWASA, urging them to ensure the project delivers the expected impact.
Speaking on behalf of EACOP, Mr. Mponda said:
“We are honoured to have signed this important agreement with RUWASA for the Access to Water Project in Dodoma and Manyara. Access to clean and reliable water is a fundamental need, and through this partnership we aim to make a tangible difference in the lives of the communities along our corridor. With RUWASA’s expertise, the project will provide sustainable solutions for domestic use and livestock while supporting community resilience.”
This was further complemented by the SEI/CSR Manager for EACOP Tanzania, who emphasized that the collaboration would ensure the project’s goals are not only realized but also sustained in the long run.
The Access to Water Project falls under EACOP’s Socio-Economic Investment and Corporate Social Responsibility (SEICSR) Pillar 2 – Water Solutions. The initiative is designed to address the persistent water shortages across regions along the pipeline route, ensuring that affected communities gain reliable and sustainable access to clean and safe water.
