EACOP JOINS SECTOR PARTNERS IN MARKING WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY WITH IMPACTFUL COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES IN NWOYA

As part of this year’s World Environment Day celebrations, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Project proudly partnered with the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU), TotalEnergies EP Uganda, CNOOC Uganda Limited, Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), and the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), in a joint initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and enhancing community welfare.

Held in Nwoya District, the two-day event saw collaborative efforts between oil and gas sector players and local leaders to implement tangible and meaningful activities, including:

  • Commissioning of water tanks at Anaka District Hospital to support access to clean water
  • Donation of garbage collection tools to promote proper waste management
  • Tree planting to support biodiversity and combat deforestation
  • Town cleaning activities to raise awareness on community hygiene and environmental protection
  • Launch of a reconnected water project to boost public health services at Anaka Hospital
  • Public media dialogue on environmental sustainability under the theme: “Combating Plastic Pollution – A Call for Action”

The celebrations were graced by the Acholi Paramount Chief and local leaders from across the region, reflecting strong community engagement and ownership.

During the environmental dialogue, EACOP shared its ongoing efforts to reduce plastic waste at project sites. These include the use of reusable water bottles by staff and contractors, and the installation of water stations to minimize the use of single-use plastic bottles.

At EACOP, environmental sustainability is not just a regulatory requirement – it is a core principle of our operations. We are committed to protecting ecosystems, promoting responsible waste practices, and ensuring that our presence leaves a positive and lasting impact on the communities we operate in.
