EMPOWERING YOUTH THROUGH SKILLS: EACOP AND BBN SCHOLARSHIP EVENT

EACOP and BBN, in collaboration with the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) Tanga, have officially launched a scholarship program that goes beyond local content obligations, reflecting a strong commitment to community empowerment. Twelve youth from the Tanga region, specifically the villages of Chongoleani, Mpirani, Putini, and Ndoaya; have been awarded scholarships under VETA’s Special Training Program.

Over the next six months, the beneficiaries will undergo intensive theoretical and practical training in carpentry and furniture making, tailoring and garment making, and beauty and cosmetology, skills carefully aligned with both community needs and the aspirations of the students. This initiative builds self employment and long term professional success.

Speaking at the event, Martha Makoi, Local Content Capacity Building Lead, highlighted the importance of collaboration and knowledge transfer in shaping the future of the country, stating:
“True development lies in equipping our young people not just with skills, but with the capacity to carry forward what they’ve learned, creating a ripple effect of growth and opportunity.”

Adding to this, Hubert Rossano, JETTY Package Manager, commended BBN for the valuable training programs they continue to support at VETA, which strengthen the institution’s capacity to deliver high-quality technical skills to Tanzanian youth. Jerome Betat, Terminal and Tank Package Manager, congratulated the twelve beneficiaries, highlighting that this opportunity will not only shape their lives but also contribute to the future development of Chongoleani.

Cetin Renan, BBN Project Manager, expressed BBN’s gratitude to EACOP for facilitating the scholarship with VETA, emphasizing that “we did not just come to build a jetty, but also to build skills and a future for the youth and people of Chongoleani.”

The VETA Principal, Mr. Ole Lairumbe, noted that this scholarship is one of many opportunities made possible through the collaboration between EACOP and BBN, highlighting that such initiatives lift up youth who come from very little and empower them with skills that benefit themselves, their communities, and their future.

This scholarship program is a critical part of EACOP’s broader Local Content Strategy, reinforcing a vision that prioritizes human capital. EACOP is not just building a pipeline, it is building people, nurturing a skilled, self reliant workforce, and ensuring a lasting legacy in the communities it serves.
