EACOP PARTICIPATES IN 2025 OIL AND GAS CSO CONFERENCE IN UGANDA
EACOP took part in the Third Annual National Conference for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and NGOs on Business, Social, and Human Rights in Uganda’s Oil and Gas Sector, held on May 22–23, 2025, in Kampala.
Organised by the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) and the Civil Society Coalition on Oil and Gas (CSCO), the conference brought together key players to discuss human rights in the extractive industries.
EACOP was represented by our Deputy Managing Director JB Habumugisha, and Human Rights Coordinator, Barbara Nakayenze. They shared updates on the company’s ongoing efforts to embed human rights into its operations. He reiterated EACOP’s commitment to international standards, Ugandan laws, and the company’s internal policies. He outlined the structures guiding this work, including the Human Rights Action Plan, Gender Committee, and Steering Committee.
He stressed the value of working closely with CSOs to strengthen grievance mechanisms, promote workers’ rights, and push for gender-responsive policies. “EACOP is committed to partnering with others to ensure that affected communities are treated with respect and dignity,” he said.
Speaking on a panel, Ms. Barbara Nakayenze presented findings from EACOP’s Human Rights Impact Assessment, highlighting how issues like land rights, women’s participation, and community consultation have been addressed within project activities. She mentioned tools such as NAVEX, which allows for anonymous reporting, and regular training sessions on gender and workplace ethics.
She also spoke about EACOP’s broader engagement with communities — from quarterly meetings with CSOs, collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, to work within PIIM (Project-Induced In-Migration) working groups .
