EACOP, through its Socio-Economic Investment (SEI) programme and in partnership with Hoima City, has commenced the construction of the 7.5-kilometre Nyamasoga–Katooke marram road in Buseruka Sub-County, Hoima District. The new road will connect the villages of Kayera and Katooke, home to more than 6,500 residents across over 600 households.
The initiative aims to enhance community livelihoods, improve local infrastructure, and stimulate economic growth by supporting trade and daily activities within areas along the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) route.
Once rehabilitated, the Nyamasoga–Katooke Road will link directly to the Kaiso–Tonya Highway, easing movement between key trading centres such as Nyamasoga and Buseruka. The improved road network will also provide better access to essential services, including schools, health facilities, and local markets.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. JB Habumugisha, our Deputy Managing Director reaffirmed the company’s dedication to inclusive and sustainable community development: “EACOP remains committed to ensuring that the communities along the pipeline route benefit from improved infrastructure and social services. This road project demonstrates our dedication to supporting local development priorities in partnership with government authorities.”
The project follows a request by the Hoima District leadership, seeking to improve transport and accessibility in the area. Previously, the road was in poor condition and often impassable by vehicles, limiting movement and trade. Its rehabilitation is expected to open new economic opportunities for residents and enhance access to services.
Hoima Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr. Rodgers Mbabazi, who presided over the commissioning ceremony, expressed his appreciation for EACOP’s continued collaboration and investment in local infrastructure: “This initiative reflects true partnership and demonstrates EACOP’s commitment to supporting the communities it works within. Improved infrastructure means better opportunities and a higher quality of life for our people.”
The event was attended by the area Member of Parliament, local councillors, the Chief Administrative Officer, and community members at Katooke Trading Centre, Hoima District.
