East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd. has inspected the ongoing construction of a modern maternal and child healthcare wing at Mbaraara Health Centre II in Kitoba Sub-County, Hoima District.
EACOP is funding the construction of the facility in partnership with Hoima District Local Government, with the project being developed in accordance with Ministry of Health guidelines.
The new maternal wing is designed to strengthen the health centre’s capacity to provide maternal and surgical services and support its progression towards Health Centre III status.
Mbarara Health Centre II serves more than 10,000 people across 16 villages. The facility is an important healthcare provider for communities in the area, but access to specialised maternal healthcare remains a challenge.
The nearest Health Centre III is located more than 20 kilometres away, while limited road infrastructure can make access to healthcare services difficult for some residents.
The new facility is therefore expected to bring critical maternal healthcare services closer to communities, particularly expectant mothers and newborns who require timely access to quality care.
Speaking during the site inspection, EACOP Managing Director Guillaume Dulout said: “We are not merely inspecting the construction of a new building. We are opening doors to safer motherhood, improved healthcare outcomes and renewed hope for thousands of families.”
He added that the project will help bring critical maternal healthcare services closer to communities in the region.
The investment is part of EACOP’s Socio-Economic Investment Programme under the Community Health and Safety pillar, which focuses on interventions that respond to identified community needs and contribute to improved social and economic wellbeing along the pipeline corridor.
The project also contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3), particularly efforts to improve maternal and newborn health and reduce preventable deaths.
Through its partnership with Hoima District Local Government, EACOP is supporting the strengthening of healthcare infrastructure and access to essential services for communities in the project area.
