EACOP ENGAGES UNIVERSITY GUILD LEADERS ON PROJECT PROGRESS AND OPPORTUNITIES

The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) hosted an engagement with Guild Presidents from Uganda’s leading universities – Makerere, Nakawa, Kyambogo, Nkumba, IUIU, and Mbarara – to provide project updates and strengthen dialogue with young leaders.

Our Deputy Managing Director, John Bosco Habumugisha, in his remarks, expressed appreciation for the Guild Presidents’ consistent participation in EACOP’s annual workshops. He emphasized EACOP’s commitment to responsible business conduct, environmental protection, respect for human rights, and adherence to both national laws and international best practices such as the IFC Performance Standards.

Key updates shared with the students included:

  • Progress of pipeline construction and above-ground installations
  • Ongoing land acquisition and social performance measures
  • Environmental and biodiversity protection initiatives
  • Human rights and stakeholder engagement activities
  • National content and opportunities for young professionals

The engagement provided a platform for candid discussions. Students raised important questions, particularly around engineering, environmental and social safeguards, and EACOP reassured them of its dedication to transparency and continuous engagement.

In closing, EACOP encouraged Guild leaders to act as ambassadors of accurate information within their institutions and to help their peers understand the long-term benefits of the project for Uganda and the region.
