EACOP AND PCK EMPOWER 80 YOUTH THROUGH VOCATIONAL TRAINING IN EIGHT TECHNICAL FIELDS

In line with the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd’s local content commitments, EACOP and Panyu Chu Kong Steel Pipe Co. (PCK) in partnership with the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA), celebrated the graduation of 80 young men and women from a one-year vocational training program designed to enhance employability and promote sustainable livelihoods along the pipeline corridor.

Launched in January 2025, the program equipped participants with practical, industry-relevant skills across eight technical fields:

  • Plumbing & Pipe Fitting / Boiler Mechanics

  • Masonry & Bricklaying

  • Painting & Sign Writing

  • Plant Operation

  • Electrical Installation

  • Motor Vehicle Mechanics

  • Welding & Metal Fabrication

  • Electronics

The joint ceremony, held at VETA Moshi, brought together trainees from VETA Kilindi, VETA Shinyanga, and VETA Moshi, marking a significant milestone in EACOP and PCK’s ongoing investment in Tanzania’s human capital and long-term socio-economic development.

Participants graduated with hands-on experience and nationally recognised certifications, boosting their competitiveness in the job market while supporting Tanzania’s wider industrialisation goals.

Speaking at the ceremony, Geofrey Mponda, EACOP General Manager (Tanzania), reaffirmed the project’s commitment to building a strong local workforce.

“Investing in people lies at the core of EACOP’s mission. With 1,250 km of line pipe already welded and the project now at 74% overall progress, our focus remains on ensuring long-lasting social and economic impact.”

Neema Kweka, EACOP Local Content Manager (Tanzania), echoed this commitment, highlighting the program as a model for effective public–private collaboration.

“This initiative demonstrates our deep dedication to Local Content development. By aligning EACOP’s goals with Tanzania’s national development priorities, we ensure that communities and institutions directly benefit from major investments like EACOP.”

The graduation marked more than the completion of training, it celebrated opportunity. With new technical skills, industry-ready qualifications, and renewed confidence, these 80 young Tanzanians are now better positioned to drive economic growth and contribute to the country’s industrial transformation.
