Today, 16th of February 2026, EACOP was honored to host the Prime Minister of Tanzania, Hon. Dkt. Mwigulu Nchemba, at the Marine Tanks Terminal and Jetty in Chongoleani, Tanga, part of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Project, to witness firsthand the progress achieved to date.
The East African Crude Oil Pipeline stretches from Hoima, Uganda, to the Chongoleani Peninsula in Tanga, Tanzania, forming a critical piece of infrastructure for the region. During his visit, the Prime Minister commended the strong progress achieved to date, noting that the Project is currently at 81 per cent completion. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting the smooth and timely completion of this strategic national project.
“I understand the commitments made by both the Presidents of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Uganda in ensuring the timely completion of this strategic project,” he stated.
The Prime Minister further highlighted the Project’s significant contribution to Tanzania’s economic growth, employment creation, and skills transfer for Tanzanians. The EACOP Project continues to play a vital role in strengthening the local economy while demonstrating Tanzania’s readiness and capacity to host and support large-scale international strategic investments.
During the visit, EACOP Project Director; Mr. Emmanuel Blarez, representing the Management of EACOP Ltd, together with his team, provided a detailed overview of construction progress and key milestones. He assured the Prime Minister of the strong commitment demonstrated by Management, contractors, and employees in executing the Project in line with its strategy. This includes maximizing national participation, creating employment opportunities, facilitating technology transfer, and advancing upskilling initiatives through a deliberate focus on building local capacity.
The Honourable Prime Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Energy, Hon. Salome Makamba; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Dkt. James Mataragio; the Tanga Regional Commissioner, Dr. Batilda Burian; and the Managing Director of Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), Mr. Mussa Makame, among other leaders and officials.
