How boys are helping girls stay in school.

In Uganda, initiatives like the Keep a Girl in School campaign, a partnership between East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd and Malaika, are empowering boys to support their female peers
during menstruation, thereby promoting educational continuity and reducing stigma. Notable participants include 15-year-old David Lwakatembe and Primary Six pupil Arnold Ssembuusi, who are learning to demystify menstruation and support girls at school. The campaign distributes dignity hampers with reusable pads and other essentials to girls in 20 public schools across five
districts, including Rakai and Gomba. This effort addresses significant barriers to girls’ education, such as lack of menstrual products and cultural stigma, therIeby fostering confidence, dignity, and economic empowerment in low-income areas.
